In 2004, npower renewables announced the launch of the npower renewables cup.
An event, sponsored by npower renewables, supported by RAF St. Mawgan and local
companies and hosted by St. Eval Eagles Junior Football Club. The first event was
held on Saturday 24th July 2004 at the Eagles home ground of St. Eval, 6 miles
north east of Newquay.
Although it was the tournament’s first year there was a fantastic response. Over
40 junior football teams from across Cornwall and Devon took part and it is estimated
that more than 1,500 members of the public attended.
Glyn Wilkinson, of St. Eval Eagles Football Club said, "St. Eval Eagles are delighted
to have hosted the tournament and it is fantastic to see such a great response with so
many teams taking part."
Not only did the event prove to be enjoyable for all those that took part
but over £100 has been raised though the sales of tournament programmes. The
money raised has been handed over to RAF St. Mawgan for distribution to
charity.
