npower renewables began producing electricity at Blantyre in 1995, we're now capable of producing 575 kilowatts of clean power from its single Kaplan turbine.
Located just 9 miles from Glasgow, Blantyre hydroelectric power station uses water from the River Clyde.
The site had an existing weir which was modified to enable the production of renewable energy at Blantyre. Local environmental considerations were paramount during the development, construction and operation of the site and in order to assist salmon in the river, a fish ladder was installed to enable them to make their way up stream to spawn.
