The 1.35 megawatt run of river Carnoch Hydroelectric Scheme was approved through the Section 36 process by Scottish Ministers in October 2007. The scheme will be built on the south side of Glen Tarbet at the head of Loch Sunart on the Ardnamuchen Pennisular, directly opposite npower renewables existing Glen Tarbet Hydroelectric Scheme.
The scheme will use utilise water from two burns flowing high above Carnoch Farm. Water from the Allt an Fhaing and the Allt Duibhleac Riabhach will be abstracted at low profile weirs and transferred through a buried pipeline to the powerhouse, located at the base of the hill, which will house the turbine and generator system before being discharged to the River Carnoch and allowed to continue on its natural course downstream towards Loch Sunart.
Construction is due to start in May 2008 and will take about 16 months to complete. Once generating it could be capable of powering about 1,000 homes.
