Cwm Croesor is a hydroelectric power station that was refurbished by npower renewables and is now capable of generating 500 kilowatts of clean power from a single Pelton turbine.
Located in North Wales, Cwm Croesor is in the Snowdonia National Park and was re-opened almost 100 years since it first began supplying power to local slate quarries.
The extremely difficult terrain demanded an innovative approach to rebuilding including the use of stonewall terracing and geotextiles to achieve minimal disturbance to habitats and the landscape.
Work replaced the former exposed pipeline with an underground pipeline and repairs were carried out to the existing dam and powerhouse. The power generated is transmitted to the local distribution network via underground cables.

Snowdonia provides the back drop to Cwm Croesor.
