Developing Co-firing Biomass Sites
The co-firing process begins with the identification of suitable biomass fuel sources. Trials are then undertaken using the biomass fuel at selected power stations. The environmental benefits of using the fuel, in combination with the fossil fuel traditionally burnt at the power station, are thoroughly assessed.
Where there are significant demonstrable benefits, for example, in terms of reduction in CO2 emissions, biomass fuels become part of the ongoing fuel choices for the power station, generating cleaner electricity.
