Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm
In November 2005, npower renewables submitted applications for permission to build and operate the offshore sections of the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm. Since then, some additional work has been undertaken to clarify the potential environmental effects of the project, and the measures which can be taken to minimise these effects. We are pleased to announce that this additional information has now been submitted to the Government and other relevant organisations for consideration.
What stage is the Gwynt y Môr project at?
- The consent applications for the offshore sections of the project were submitted in November 2005
- Since then, additional studies and surveys have been commissioned by npower renewables in response to questions raised by consultees during the consultation period
- The additional information ("Supplementary Environmental Information") has been pulled together and submitted to the Government and other relevant organisations
- In addition, further detailed assessment of the design of the project has been undertaken by our engineers
- Although the exact details of the project are not yet fixed, the applications were made on the basis of clearly defined limits of the development
- The area within which the turbines would be built has been amended, as have the indicative turbine layouts
- If the project is granted consent, npower renewables hopes to start building the wind farm in 2010
