    Current Progress

In November 2005, consent applications were submitted to the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) (formerly the Department of Trade & Industry), the National Assembly for Wales and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, to construct and operate the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm.

Since then we have commissioned some new work "Supplementary Environmental Information" (SEI) which has now been submitted to BERR for consideration. The new work addresses questions and requests for clarifications raised during the consultation following the submission of the consent application and accompanying Environmental Statement in November 2005. The SEI includes all of the new work, along with a review of the original assessments in light of the changes to the project information.

The SEI document covers a range of topics, and includes the following:

  • additional information regarding birds
  • further studies looking at the processes taking place on the seabed and coast
  • information on a new scheme being taken forward in Liverpool Bay, north of the project area, to route ships into and out of the Liverpool area
  • studies relating to port radar systems
  • information relating to helicopter operations and national air traffic control radar
  • further work on the visual impact assessment for the proposal
  • a new study on historical landscapes and features along the coastline
If we are successful with the application, we hope to start building Gwynt y Môr in 2010.
