    Hampole Wind Farm

Local people have been given the chance to view detailed plans for a wind farm to the west of the A1, south of the village of Hampole.

Over 150 people attended the two day wind farm exhibition and energy efficiency event at the former village hall in Brodsworth on Friday 26th October and Saturday 27th October.

Senior Renewables Developer Joanna Thompson said, "Everybody who attended the exhibition was asked to leave us their comments. Whilst we are still expecting further responses to be posted to us we are pleased that to date the majority of those who voiced their opinions are in favour of the wind farm."

On Friday 67% of people who left their comments were in favour of the project, with 17% opposing the plans.

Whilst on Saturday 55% of people who left their comments were in favour of the project, with 34% opposing the plans, the remainder were undecided.

A 5 turbine wind farm with a capacity of between 10 and 15 megawatts could meet the average annual electricity needs of between 4,800 and 7,300 homes.

If constructed the site would make a valuable contribution towards the government's commitment to ensure provision of 10% of electricity from renewable sources by the year 2010 and 20% by 2020. It would also help prevent the release of thousands of tonnes of carbon dioxide, the main greenhouse gas contributing to manmade climate change.

Joanna Thompson continued, "We were delighted that so many people attended the exhibition and overall it would appear that our plans have been well received. We will take all comments on board, both positive and negative, as we continue to develop the wind farm."
