    Kiln Pit Hill Wind Farm

A planning application has been submitted to Tynedale District Council for a wind farm on land to the east of the A68, approximately 1 kilometre south-east of Kiln Pit Hill.

The area is identified as one of a number of broad areas of least constraint for wind energy development in the draft Regional Spatial Strategy for the North East. Northumberland County Council has also identified the area as having the potential for medium scale wind energy development in their adopted Structure Plan (February 2005).

The site is located on open exposed farmland that benefits from good wind speeds. Wind turbines on the land would coexist with existing agricultural practices.

Our proposal comprises 6 wind turbines with a combined maximum output of around 12 megawatts. A wind farm of this size would generate enough electricity each year to supply the average domestic needs of some 6,200 average homes (averaged out across the year and taking into account times of low wind speed).
