    Langham Wind Farm

npower renewables has submitted a planning application for a 6 turbine wind farm on farm land between Anderby, Anderby Creek and Chapel St Leonards.

If successful the wind farm could make a valuable contribution to renewable energy targets and the fight against climate change. Kim Gauld-Clark, the developer of the scheme said, "We are very excited to get to this stage. We feel we have produced a very thorough Environmental Statement (ES) which has been submitted with the planning application. This is the culmination of a lot of hard work by the staff at npower renewables, as well as many independent consultants.

"The consultation we have carried out locally has been very positive with 83% of those who attended the public exhibition in December 2005, and completed a comments form, in support of the wind farm.

"Over two-thirds of the comments postcards we received back from local residents following the distribution of Issue 1 of 'Wind Power News' newsletter in October 2005 stated support for Langham Wind Farm. Under one third of the respondents were opposed."

The proposed wind farm is capable of producing enough electricity to meet the annual average needs of between 5,500 and 7,900 homes each year. This takes into account fluctuations in wind speeds (and therefore also periods when the turbines would not be generating).

npower renewables' planning application is made following a range of environmental studies, covering all aspects of the proposal, from noise levels to wildlife. These studies are set out in the Environmental Statement submitted with the planning application which runs to several hundred pages and is available to view at the planning office in Manby, near Louth or at local libraries. Full paper copies of the Environmental Statement are also available to purchase at a cost of £80, or the Environmental Statement is available on CD at a cost of £5.

For those who would rather not study the Environmental Statement in detail, a non-technical summary has also been produced. There will be copies of this summary document at local venues or alternatively copies can be obtained free of charge from npower renewables or can be downloaded using the box to the right hand side of this page. Residents can contact npower renewables on 08456 720090 for a free copy of the summary or for details of how to purchase the full Environmental Statement on paper or on CD.
