Montgomeryshire Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institute (RABI) today received a cheque for £650 from npower renewables1 Carno Wind Farm Community Fund towards helping them raise over £5,500 as part of their fund raising events held earlier last year.
RABI provide welfare advice, care and financial provision to those in the farming community in hardship, need or distress. Through volunteers and supporters RABI raise funds to maintain and develop a cost effective service capable of meeting the future welfare needs of those farming across Wales, England and Northern Ireland.
As an important part of RABI's fund raising activities, a major charity shoot was arranged in conjunction with the Mid Wales Clay Shooting Centre at Trefeglwys on Saturday 11th September 2004. Proceeds from the day play a crucial part in replenishing the funds of the organisation and in particular in attempting to redress the balance in Montgomeryshire. During 2003, £45,261 was paid out in grants between those members of the farming community, in Montgomeryshire, who are suffering hardship.
Evan Jones, from RABI said "The event received a lot of local support with the cartridges being sponsored by the Royal Berkshire Shooting School and the clays being provided for by the Shooting Centre itself. There was also a tremendous amount of interest generated by local businesses associated with the agricultural community. Many were quick to respond by agreeing to provide prizes for the promise auction."
"The donation by npower renewables has helped a great deal towards raising a substantial amount of money that assists us in supporting the Montgomeryshire farming community" Mr Jones went onto say.
The donation comes from the community fund, paid for by Carno Wind Farm. Carno Wind Farm, operated by npower renewables, is located 4km west of Carno village in Mid Wales and consists of 56 turbines, capable of generating enough electricity each year to supply the average needs of about 25,000 homes and reduce emissions of the greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide, by some 80,000 tonnes per year.
Rhys Howells from npower renewables, who presented the cheque to RABI said "It's great to see the wind farm supporting the local community. At times such as these when the farming community as a whole is struggling, it is fantastic to be able to support organisations such as RABI who can really make a difference."
