  Date: 21st November 2005
Subject: Nun Wood goes on show

Great interest was shown towards a wind farm proposed on land between Bozeat and Lavendon at the weekend, after over 560 people attended a public exhibition organised by the developer npower renewables1.

Residents living in the vicinity of the proposed Nun Wood Wind Farm were shown photomontages of how the scheme could look and staff were on hand to answer any questions about the 16 turbine proposal2.

Project manager Vicky Portwain said, "A big thanks to all those who attended the exhibition over the weekend, it was great to get comments from those living locally. It was noticeable that people spent a lot of time reading over the information and many came with an open mind. It was also apparent that many were keen to engage in an intelligent renewables debate and were trying to search for the facts."

She continued, "Initial analysis of the comments forms showed that just over half of those who left us their thoughts, were either in favour of the scheme or still undecided. What we see from public opinion at our 15 operational wind farms across the UK is that at this early stage there is a lot of uncertainty; however that changes once the turbines are turning and some of the wind industry's biggest supporters are those who live closest to wind farms."

The site at Nun Wood could produce enough electricity to meet the average annual electricity needs of up to 16,300 homes, making a valuable contribution to regional renewable energy targets and offsetting the release of 65,800 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide, one of the main greenhouse gases, every year.

Anyone who was unable to attend the exhibitions who would like further information, and anyone with comments or suggestions about this proposal can e-mail nunwood@npower-renewables.com or Telephone 0118 959 2440.

Notes:

  1. npower renewables is a specialist subsidiary of one of the UK's leading integrated energy companies, RWE npower, and is a leading renewable energy developer and operator. The company is dedicated to generating electricity using sustainable environmentally-friendly resources, and is currently developing the natural power of wind, hydro and co-firing biomass as significant sources of power for the UK's present and future electricity needs.

In November 2003, npower renewables' sister company, electricity retailer "npower", and Greenpeace, announced the establishment of the npower Juice fund, in association with the company's green electricity product npower Juice. This fund is helping to support the development of "new" renewable energy technologies such as wave and tidal.

  2. The public exhibition was held over two days at Lavendon Village Hall (Saturday 19th November) and at St Mary's Church Hall, Bozeat (Sunday 20th November). In total 563 people attended over the two day consultation period.
