A planning application for a wind farm on farm land between Anderby, Anderby Creek and Chapel St Leonards has been submitted by npower renewables.
The application comes after a busy period in which the company has carried out a wide range of assessments on the site's suitability for a wind farm and consulted with local people. The application is for 6 wind turbines (up to a maximum of 127m to the tip) on a site known as Langham.
It is anticipated that these would produce enough renewable electricity for the average annual needs of between 5,500 and 7,900 homes1. The higher figure is equivalent to around 90 percent of all the homes in Skegness.
Renewables Developer Kim Gauld-Clark said, "To keep local residents fully informed about the application, we have produced a newsletter which is being delivered to local homes this week. It will provide more detail on the planning application, and the role the project could play in addressing the very serious issue of climate change.
"We are delighted to reach this important stage. So far we have had a positive response to our plans for the Langham Wind Farm and we would encourage all those who have expressed their support for the scheme to make their feelings known to the planning office at East Lindsay District Council. You really can make a difference to the success of the wind farm."
npower renewables' planning application is supported by a range of environmental studies, covering all aspects of the proposal, from noise levels to wildlife. These studies are set out in the Environmental Statement which runs to several hundred pages and is available to view at the planning office in Manby, near Louth or at local libraries. Full paper copies of the Environmental Statement are also available to purchase at a cost of £80, or the Environmental Statement is available on CD at a cost of £5.
For those who would rather not study the Environmental Statement in detail, a non-technical summary has also been produced. There will also be copies of this summary document at local venues and it is available as a pdf to download from the web-site www.npower-renewables.com/langham. Residents can contact npower renewables on 08456 720090 for a free copy of the summary or for details of how to purchase the full Environmental Statement on paper or on CD.

-
Based on an annual electricity consumption per home of 4700 kWh, which is derived from a total UK domestic electricity consumption of 117.589 terawatt-hours (TWh) and 25.2 million UK households giving 4,666 kWh per year per household. UK energy consumption is as stated for 2004 in The Digest of UK Energy Statistics 2005
The number of UK households is as stated for 2003 in the Mid-year Household Estimates for England (21.1 m), Northern Ireland (0.65 m), Scotland (2.2 m) and Wales (1.2 m)
published in 2004 by the Office for National Statistics.
The energy predicted to be generated by the proposal is derived from monitoring wind speeds in the area and correlating this data to wind speeds measured at Met. Office
stations. This enables a calculation to be made to estimate the average annual energy production for the site based on 6 turbines with a total rated capacity of between 9 and 15MW. The energy capture and equivalent homes figure relating to this project may change as more information is gathered.
