    Press Release

  Date: 22nd March 2007
Subject: Wind Farm planning application submitted

A planning application for a wind farm on land between Clacton-On-Sea and St Osyth has been submitted by npower renewables.

The wind farm team have spent over a year carrying out detailed environmental studies and consulting with local people. Earls Hall Wind Farm would consist of 5 wind turbines (up to 125m to the tip), which could produce enough renewable electricity for the average annual needs of between 5,500 and 6,000 homes.

Development Manager Vicky Portwain said, "We're delighted to have submitted a planning application for a wind farm at Earls Hall Farm. We have seen from the recently published IPCC report that the problem of climate change is becoming ever more serious.

"By changing the way we generate and consume our electricity we can really make a difference to the levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, helping to prevent climate change. Earls Hall Wind Farm has a valuable role to play in that fight and we would urge Clacton residents to write to the Planning Department at Tendring District Council to support this application, your opinion truly can make a difference."

A newsletter will be delivered to local homes this week to keep residents fully informed about the application and the role the project could play in addressing the very serious issue of climate change.

npower renewables' planning application is supported by a range of environmental studies, covering all aspects of the proposal. These reports run to several hundred pages and has been forwarded to Clacton library and Tendring Council planning office.

For those who would rather not study the reports in detail, a Non-Technical Summary has also been produced. This is considerably slimmer, but still contains the key findings of the various environmental reports.

There will also be copies of this summary document at local venues, in addition to it being available as a pdf to download from the web-site www.npower-renewables.com/earlshall (or residents can contact npower renewables for a free copy of the summary).
