Details of a wind farm proposal 5.5 km south west of Newton Mearns are to be unveiled
to residents at public exhibitions next week.
The proposed development at Middleton Farm is still in the early design stage, but initial studies have indicated a wind farm of 6 turbines with a total capacity of between 12-15 megawatts may be feasible.
npower renewables, the UK's leading wind farm operator, say the exhibitions are the perfect opportunity for those living in the vicinity of the project to gain a better understanding of the need for renewable energy, wind farms and the details of the proposal.
The two day exhibition is being held at Glen Hall, Neilston on Monday 3rd and Fairweather Hall, Newton Mearns on Wednesday 5th September between 2pm and 8pm. It will give locals the opportunity to view computer generated images of how the development might look in the existing landscape, find out more about the studies that have been carried out and to ask questions or have concerns addressed by the developer and independent experts.
Rebecca Rankine, Renewables Developer at npower renewables said : "The exhibition is just one of the ways to ensure that local people are both informed about the proposal and are given the opportunity to have questions answered and their ideas or suggestions addressed before the design of the wind farm is completed and the planning application submitted."
"Early consultation was held with Mearns and Neilston Community Councils and now it is the chance for residents in the area to have their say. More than 4500 newsletters are being sent out to households in the area informing them of our proposals and encouraging them to get involved in the consultation process."
The six turbines at Middleton Farm could meet the average annual electricity needs of between 6,700 - 8,400 Scottish homes.
Notes:
-
Public exhibitions will be held at Glen Hall Neilston and then Fairweather Hall, Newton Mearns on Monday 3rd and Wednesday 5th September from 2pm-8pm.
- The proposed wind farm located on grazed pasture and is within East Refrewshire's Area for Renewable Energy (Replacement Local Policy Plan E15)
- The proposed 6 turbines could meet the electricity needs of between 6,700-8,400 Scottish homes (1) and based on present day carbon dioxide savings figures, the wind farm will save the emission of between 27,100 and 33,900 tonnes of carbon dioxide over the course of the day.
1 - npower renewables is the UK's leading wind farm operator, dedicated to generating electricity using sustainable, environmentally-friendly resources. We currently manage 19 wind farms and 16 hydro-electric schemes totalling around 460megawatts of installed capacity. We are also investing in our first wave power project on Siadar, Isle of Lewis.
