  Subject: npower funds MacMillan post to help people with cancer living in Caithness

The Caithness community is set to benefit from a generous donation thanks to Northern energy giant npower and its employees who have contributed some £650,000 to Macmillan Cancer Relief as part of their UK-wide fundraising campaign last year.

Over £21,000 (£21,816.66) has been donated towards the current Highland Appeal for this vital cancer care service to help people living with cancer locally. In Caithness Macmillan Cancer Relief have highlighted the need for palliative care facilities to be available locally and are committed to the redevelopment of an area within the Town & County Hospital in Wick.

Fiona Hawthorne Fundraising Manager (Highlands & Moray) says, "I am delighted with this generous donation from npower, it will significantly boost the Highland Appeal. Macmillan have a great presence in Caithness thanks to the hard work and dedication to our 2 local fundraising committees and the continued support from the community. This facility will make a real difference to the lives of those affected by cancer in the area."

npower is one of the UK's top three gas and electricity suppliers with around 6 million customers. Carol Hart, Corporate Charities and Community Involvement Manager for npower comments:

A corporate donation of £200,000 kicked off the fundraising and other activities have included sponsorship of Macmillan Miles Challenge event, employee fundraising such as Macmillan Coffee Morning and cause related marketing initiatives such as npower's Health Through Warmth home referral scheme. I'm a Celebrity star and ex England cricketer, Phil Tufnell, has also supported npower's fundraising campaign through his completion of the npower 500, a 500 mile, month-long, non-stop fundraising walk.
