North east firms set to embrace the wind revolution
North east businesses have been given the opportunity to get involved in the burgeoning wind industry in the region
The UK's leading wind farm developer npower renewables and Business Link earlier this week (Tuesday 19th June 2007) organised 'Meet the Buyers - Wind Energy' at Linden Hall Hotel, an event designed to match potential wind energy contractors with wind turbine suppliers and construction companies.
Clare Wilson, Regional Development Manager for npower renewables said, "Although the north east wind industry is in its infancy, we felt it was vital that when construction begins north east firms are best placed to win some of the contracts.
"We have three wind farm developments across Northumberland with a potential contract value of between £80 and £100million. We know from experience that at least a quarter of that spend will stay locally. So there is an opportunity for north east firms to win some sizeable contracts and an opportunity for us to minimise our carbon footprint during construction."
"Meet the Buyers provides an opportunity to introduce the buyers and contractors to facilitate potential contracts well in advance of construction beginning."
Andy Brown from Business Link said, "The attitude shown by npower renewables towards the potential wind farm construction industry in the north east is to be commended. Clearly wind power is a growth area and it is vital that north east firms are in a position to benefit from it in the future."
The event at Linden Hall was sponsored by Barnard Castle based npower renewables and Business Link and organised by Business 2 Business.
In total 15 buyers and around 60 contractors attended the day long event.
