Offshore foundation works are now complete, in preparation for the installation of the wind turbines.
Offshore construction work progress
The final monopile and yellow transition piece have been installed on the site of the Rhyl Flats Offshore Wind Farm, bringing to an end the foundation installation phase of the wind farm construction. Work started on the piling of the first foundation at the end of April 2008 and was completed within the planned three months time frame.
Each foundation is a steel monopile, up to 40m long, 4.7m wide and topped with a yellow transition piece.
Scour protection work, to protect the foundations, has been carried out in tandem with the foundation piling works. Scour protection will be rechecked during and after the installation of the turbines later this year, and will be reinforced where necessary.
