Construction overview
- Scour protection work, which began in April 2008 is progressing to
schedule.
- Offshore foundation work is now over half way through, in
preparation for the installation of the turbine towers and Nacelles (the hub and blades) later this year (2008).
- Onshore preparation works are underway to bring the power generated
by the wind farm on land, and connect it to the local energy distribution network.
Offshore construction work progress
- At the time of publication, we are over half way through the
foundation installation works. Fifteen (15) of the 25 Rhyl Flats Offshore Wind Farm's foundations have been successfully installed.
- Each foundation is a steel monopile, up to 40m long, 4.7m wide and
topped with a yellow transition piece.
- Scour protection work, to protect the foundations, continues
alongside the foundation piling works.
- Progress remains on schedule.
Onshore construction work progress
- Construction of the substation at Towyn is almost complete with
mechanical erection of the electrical equipment ongoing
- The Grid transformer has been delivered and installed at the
sub-station
- Cable civil works are complete and cable pulling/installation is
ongoing
- Beach works to receive the offshore cable are ongoing
- Offshore cable installation, to bring the power onshore is scheduled
to begin in July 2008.
Construction diary milestones
- Offshore foundation works are expected to be finished by end of
summer 2008.
- Scour protection is due to finish by the end of August 2008.
- The first of the 25 wind farm turbines is due to be installed and
generating clean, green energy by the end of 2008.
- Rhyl Flats offshore wind farm is expected to be fully constructed
and operational by summer 2009.
