The refurbishment of the Stanley Mills Hydro site was completed in 2003. The scheme now contains a single Bulb turbine capable of generating 840 kilowatts.
It is located on the River Tay, about six miles north of Perth.
The hydroelectric power plant was originally built in 1921 and produced electricity until the mid 1970s. More recently npower renewables refurbished the existing structures, including a 250 metre long water supply tunnel and the listed powerhouse.
We worked closely with the Regional Fisheries Board to ensure the protection of fish, vital to the fishing sport and local economy of the River Tay. Fish entering the water system are safely transferred downstream via a custom designed screen and bypass system. Disturbance to other environmentally protected wildlife, including otters and bats, was also closely monitored.
