Construction work has now begun on the Hollies Wind Farm.
The project, developed by landowner Tim Spencer and the East of England npower renewables team, received consent in August 2005 to the delight of both parties.
Once construction is complete the two turbines, with a tip height of 90 metres, would each be capable of generating 1.3 megawatts giving the site a maximum combined output of up to 2.6 megawatts.
At this size the scheme will generate enough green electricity to power around 1,300 homes each year.
Further still, because this electricity comes from a renewable source, the scheme will also help offset the emission of carbon dioxide which would otherwise have been released from the burning of fossil fuels, such as coal, that are used to generate electricity.
The site is ideal for a wind farm as:
- It has excellent wind speed
- The site is outside all designations for landscape and ecology
- The electricity will be fed into the local distribution grid
