This £17.5 million development was jointly financed by npower renewables and Fred.Olsen Ltd
and represents a significant investment in clean and sustainable energy sources and
in the Scottish rural economy. Approximately £4 million was spent in Scotland during
the construction process.
npower renewables has delivered a range of community benefits in association with its operating wind farms. These measures benefit those communities living closest to each wind farm, and have to date included energy efficiency measures, schools education programmes, local event sponsorships, equipment for schools, youth groups and sports clubs, and repair works to village halls and other community buildings. At Windy Standard Wind Farm a fund totalling over £10,000 each year throughout
the life of the wind farm has been set up to assist local community projects in New Cumnock
and Carsphairn. These include a donation to build a New Cumnock Disaster Memorial
and the purchase of crockery for Lagwyne Hall.
The community fund has also benefited Carsphairn with a grant for re-painting
Carsphairn Parish Church. A picture of the church can be seen below.
